In Character Information
Name: Yuusei Fudou
Series: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's
Canon Standing: Post-episode 138.
Age: 19
Birthday & Astrology Sign: Unknown in canon, but I'll go with December 27th, Capricorn
Arcana: The Star

Personality:

Yuusei Fudou is a man of few words. Quiet and calm most of the time, he's known and respected by many for his ability to remain cool and collected even in the most stressful situations. He's not an overly talkative type, and when he does speak, he usually does so in a very blunt, matter-of-fact way, which in some cases may almost come off as offensive, whether intended or not. He's confident, but not overly so -- he knows where his limits are and won't pretend otherwise. Although, let's be honest: he's a genius. A skilled duelist, D-Wheeler, mechanic and hacker -- being all of those and more despite being raised in an extremely poor town with hardly any education can definitely prove it. He's a hard-worker, too, and once he focuses on something (usually concerning mechanics), you can be sure it will get done. In fact, he may become too absorbed in his projects sometimes, which is where he pays little attention to such things as eating or sleeping or even other people, but it only confirms his determination and strong will. Being a strategist and possessing an analytic mind, Yuusei doesn't make hasty decisions, but rather considers all possible courses of action and their outcomes before acting. That is not to say he doesn't take his instinct into consideration -- quite the opposite, he follows it along with careful calculations, and he's not afraid to take great risk if he considers it necessary. Those traits make him a rather capable leader, should a need for that arise.

The fact he's always so serious and reticent may lead one to believe he's cold and unapproachable to others... and if they do assume that, they couldn't be more wrong. You see, Yuusei was named after a particle in planetary gear that binds all other parts, with a thought that he would become a person who would bring people together -- and he certainly does live up to his name. There is nothing he values more than bonds with other people, family and friends in particular. Granted, he's not very talkative and may feel restless or become slightly overwhelmed by big social events, but that doesn't prevent him from making friends -- or at least earning people's trust and respect -- fairly easy. It shouldn't come as a surprise, though, as only knowing him for a short while will reveal that he's a loyal and trustworthy friend who's not afraid to put himself in harm's way in order to protect people he cares for. Another reason for it is that Yuusei seems to understand people's feelings really well. He's very emotionally perceptive and can tell when a person is hurting -- and what's even more important, he's always willing to help them in any way he can, even if they're complete strangers. This combination of empathy, genuine concern and compassion is what has won him the favor of many people.

Having grown up in what was basically a junkyard, Yuusei has learned and still strongly believes that nothing and no one in the world is useless, which is why he becomes irritated with people who call others (or their cards) "scum", "trash" and alike. Those who belittle and speak ill of other people's dreams, hopes and beliefs in front of him should be prepared to face his controlled, yet dangerous anger. While he's not prone to using violence, he will not hesitate to use it if needed, either, as he's well-aware that sometimes it's the only (or simply the fastest) way to solve the problem. And while we're at that, let's face it: he's not the shining example of obeying the law, either. Due to his experiences with unjust and outward cruel law enforcement, he has no faith or trust in the authority, and therefore doesn't find it morally unacceptable to go against it, especially when his friends and/or the bonds he has with them are at the stake.

While never the one to judge others, Yuusei is rather quick to take the blame on himself, even in instances where he isn't directly involved, such as when Kiryu was arrested or the Zero Reverse incident, which was caused by his father invention. He's never quite gotten over the feeling of guilt in the latter case, which is only made worse due to his being haunted by the nightmares of said tragedy. Although generally pretty difficult to upset, whenever the topic of his faults (or better said, things he perceives as such) comes up, he may lose his concentration on the current task on hand and sink into melancholy, though he's usually able to overcome the worst part, either thanks to his friends telling him to get himself together or his own resolve.

Backstory:

All you ever wanted to know about Yuusei's past and even more!

Canon Powers:

Yuusei is a Signer -- one of five (or six, depending on the point in the series) people chosen by an ancient god, Crimson Dragon. The proof to this is the Dragon's Head birthmark on his right forearm. The powers that come with serving a god can be summed up shortly -- they work whenever Crimson Dragon feels like it. There are no set rules to how they work, either, but it seems that in general, the god tries to prevent Signers from dying whenever possible (in most cases by creating a protective bubble of red light around them) -- examples include being protected when falling from heights or other instant death events. Curiously enough, it doesn't cover falling down a canyon or getting stabbed in the guts with a piece of metal, suggesting it's completely random or only effective when the plot demands it not very common. It doesn't seem to apply to duels, either -- they're not given protection in those. Similarly, Signers are protected from dying inside flaming geoglyphs created by Dark Signers or being affected by the power of altering the past -- they are the only ones who remember the original course of events and are aware of the change. Whether the same effect applies to other powers of that kind, such as illusions or brain-control, is not clear -- again, it's up to Crimson Dragon to decide. Additionally, the Dragon Birthmarks react to other god-like powers, and begin to glow when exposed to them. A similar phenomena of glowing forearms also occurs whenever one of the Signers is fighting, though it's not always the case -- basically, it's Power of Friendship only with bonus birthmarks, light coming from them and occasionally throbbing pain in the forearm. Lastly, though perhaps most importantly, together, Signers are able to summon Crimson Dragon. However, they do not force -- or even consciously ask -- it to appear, but it's rather the god that answers the collective call of their hearts. Probably the only time Yuusei consciously uses the power of the god is when summoning Savior Star Dragon, as it requires him to "borrow" and gather the birthmarks of his fellow Signers on his back. Similar occurrence takes place during Accel Synchro (see below), though in that case it's more symbolic.

Another power he possesses is the ability to reach the state of Clear Mind, in which it's possible for a person to control Momentum (a type of energy generation system based on epicyclic gearing, common in 5D's universe) with one's heart -- in other words, he could change its rotation from Plus to Minus or the other way round. The state of Clear Mind can only be achieved through speed while the person's mind is "clear" psychologically, meaning one is focused on the battle and not distracted by anything else. Also, it is required in order to perform Accel Synchro Summon in a Riding Duel.

So, as far as classification of the above goes:
-- Signer powers (mostly birthmark-connected) - Mind
-- Crimson Dragon summon yeah right LIKE THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN - Almighty
-- Clear Mind - Mind
(Aditionally, he's rather capable when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, which I suppose counts as Physical.)

3rd Person Example

Despite his sudden relocation to an entirely new environment, the nightmares didn't stop. Quite the contrary, they seemed to have gone worse, the memories (or perhaps just imaginations, he was never really sure) of Zero Reverse incident, the fateful day when the old Domino City had been literally torn apart, were now joined by disturbing visions of the future where Neo Domino City was destroyed as well -- future that, as Yuusei was well-aware, could very soon become true if he didn't stop it from happening. That, however, remained impossible as long as he was in this world -- one so different, yet so similar to his own. The differences were numerous: as he found out soon after his arrival, no one here had heard of Duel Monsters, D-Wheels or even Momentum -- things extremely common back where he came from. But this city, just like his hometown, had found itself on the verge of destruction while most of its residents could do nothing but watch the progress of events and hope for the best.

The duelist inhaled the chilly, night air, watching the deserted streets of Hinoto-Ri from the rooftop of the apartment complex where he'd been assigned a place to stay by the Government. Truth to be told, he couldn't bring himself to trust them -- there were still too many questions that had yet to be answered, and the replies to ones that had been seemed oddly vague. It was a bit strange that they would place so much faith in them -- people from entirely different worlds who, generally speaking, had no reason to be interested in helping this city. That was not the case for Yuusei, though, as he truly intended to protect this place to the best of his ability, not just in order to go back home, but because he genuinely cared for Hinoto-Ri and its citizens... as well as believed in them. Believed that mankind would prove it's not doomed to fall, but could forge its destiny with its own hands.

The question was, how was he supposed to help? How to stop an unknown enemy when he didn't have any power that could aid in that-- No. No, that wasn't right. He did have power... Something he'd never had before coming here, or perhaps simply had never realized he had. The Signer clenched his fist at his side, thinking back to the countless duels he'd fought and the exact moment when he would summon his ace monster...

"Take flight, Stardust Dragon!"

Blue aura covered the ground and a familiar figure of a white dragon emerged above Yuusei, spreading its wings in the sky. Seeing his partner in front of him, a small smile spread across the duelist's face, perhaps for the first time in the past few days.

Yes, with Stardust by his side, perhaps he could assist in saving Hinoto-Ri.
